Backend-as-a-Service A way for developers to link their applications to ‘backend’ cloud storage
BGP Border Gateway Protocol A standardized exterior gateway protocol designed to exchange routing and reachability information between autonomous systems (AS) on the Internet
BMC/iDRAC Baseboard Management Controller/ Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller An on-board microcontroller that monitors the system for critical events by communicating with various sensors on the system board and sends alerts and log events when certain parameters exceed their preset thresholds
BSC Base Station Controller A critical mobile network component that controls one or more base stations or cell sites
BSS Base Station Sub-system A traditional cellular telephone network which is responsible for handling traffic and signaling between a mobile phone and the network switching subsystem
BTS Base Transceiver Station A base transceiver station (BTS) is a piece of equipment that facilitates wireless communication between user equipment (UE) and a network
Bundle A customer-orderable solution that consists of all necessary solution software licenses and server networkstorage hardware needed to install and operate the solution as outlined
CC Cloud Computing A type of computing that relies on sharing computing resources rather than having local servers or personal devices to handle applications
CC Call Control Call control decodes addressing information and routes telephone calls from one end point to another
CD Compute Domain Domain within the NFVI that includes servers and storage
CDF Charging Data Function
CDMA Code Division Multiple Access A channel access method used by various radio communication technologies

CIDR Classless Inter-domain Routing Method for allocating IP addresses and routing Internet Protocol packets
Circuit-Switched Network A type of network where the communications between end devices (nodes) must be set up before they can communicate
CLI Command Line Interface Means of interacting with a computer program where the user issues commands to the program
Cluster A set of servers dedicaed to OpenStack that can be attached to multiple distribution switches
CN Compute Node The hardware configuration that best supports the hypervisor server or Nova compute role
Container Container virtualization is virtualization at the operating system level instead of the hardware level.
COTS Commercial off-the-shelf Services that are available in the commercial marketplace bought and used under government contract
CS Circuit Switched A type of communications in which a dedicated channel (or circuit) is established for the duration of a transmission
CSCF Call Session Control Function Several roles of SIP servers or proxies collectively called Call Session Control Function (CSCF) are used to process SIP signaling packets in the IMS. A Proxy-CSCF (P-CSCF) is a SIP proxy that is the first point of contact for the IMS terminal
CSG Closed Subscriber Group A limited set of users with connectivity access to a femtocell
DaaS Desktop-as-a-Service Separates the desktop environment/applications from the physical device that is typically used to access it and makes it accessible in the cloud.

MME Mobility Management Entity MME is responsible for idle mode UE paging and tagging procedure including retransmissions. It is involved in the bearer activation/deactivation process and is also responsible for choosing the SGW for a UE at the initial attach and at time of intra-LTE handover involving Core Network (CN) node relocation. It is responsible for authenticating the user (by interacting with the HSS)
